'Untitled(cooking sound#4)' installation 2000 - outside view
electric cooking plates, water, pump, microphones, speakers, amlifier, isolation wool, wood
size variable
Version#4 of an ongoing work. I let water drip and pump on hot electric cooking plates, so as the water drops hit the hot plate it evapurates immediatly and gives a certain hiss sound. This sound I electronically amplified. I built a room around the plates. So it became a space within a space where you stood outside and most people could hardly stand the noise coming from the speakers on the floor. Then you could walk into the two entrances/exits of the space which was made out of isolation wool. There the only sound was calming accoustic sounds of evapurating water and nothing from outside the space. But the heat was overwhelming and most people couldn't stay in there for long because of it.
